What is a Photofacial like?

A photofacial, or intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns such as sun damage, age spots, redness, and uneven skin tone. The light energy penetrates the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting a more even complexion and improved skin texture.

Why we love it:

Photofacials stand out for their versatility in addressing a range of skin concerns, including sun damage, redness, and uneven skin tone. As a non-invasive option, they provide facial rejuvenation without the need for surgery, making them accessible to individuals seeking a more youthful appearance. With quick sessions, minimal discomfort, and the ability to target multiple concerns simultaneously, photofacials offer a comprehensive and efficient solution for achieving radiant and even-toned skin.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • First, we will apply a clear gel to your face to aid your skin’s absorption of the light therapy. We will then apply the hand-held IPL device to your skin to administer the light energy.

  • A photofacial has been compared to the feeling of a rubber band snapping against the skin. This sensation lasts only as long as the light is hitting the skin, for a second at a time.

As soon as your treatment is done, the sensation is gone.

  • The photofacial takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on your treatment area and the number of areas you are treating.

  • Following treatment, you will need to allow for 3-5 days of downtime, during which you should refrain from strenuous activities and reapplying makeup. While IPL is non-invasive, your skin will require this time for recovery.

  • You may experience slight redness or feel mildly sunburned immediately following your treatment, but these side effects resolve quickly on their own in the hours after your treatment. Many patients experience little to no redness following their treatment.
